I’m Ragupathy M, a Site Reliability Engineer.
I have spent my career operating other people’s software. I’ve never contributed to the projects I depend on every day. This site is me fixing that, in public, starting with Kubernetes.
Why write it down
Two reasons, and I’d rather be honest about both.
The first is that documenting a thing forces you to understand it. It’s very easy to follow a contributor guide, get a PR merged, and retain nothing. Writing the post afterwards is what makes it stick.
The second is that the beginner’s view is a perishable asset. Right now I don’t
know what an OWNERS file is, why the bot keeps asking me for a /lgtm, or which
SIG owns the thing I want to change. In a year I’ll have forgotten that I ever
didn’t know, and I’ll write the same unhelpful post everyone else writes. The
confusion is the material, and it expires.
What you’ll find here
Notes from a real contribution attempt: what I tried, what the reviewer said, what I’d misunderstood, how long it actually took. Some of these will end in a merged PR. Some will end in a closed one. Both get written up.
